Our literacy initiative for Indonesian students and teachers
In honour of the newly minted New Year 2024, we recently co-launched another educational project. Together with the Indonesian charity—Tunas Literacy Foundation—we introduced a literacy initiative, ‘I Love Reading’ (Saya Suka Membaca or simply SSM), in the Kupang Regency, Indonesia.
As part of the curriculum, ten early-grade teachers from different schools in the Central and East Kupang Districts learned how to teach reading skills effectively and lastingly, passing on their passion and knowledge to the next generation.
The SSM initiative provides levelled reading books and other educational resources to encourage a love of reading among Indonesian children and help them develop their literacy skills. It’s a practical and inspiring way to combat illiteracy—an issue that still requires ongoing care and attention in Indonesia.
Although our teacher-empowering project within the ‘I Love Reading’ framework began as a New Year’s venture, we plan to extend it well into 2024. Teachers from selected schools will continue to receive mentorship to grow as educators.
Thank you to our traders for their contribution. We’re confident it will change the lives of many Indonesian children for the better.
